James Bryant, DVM, Diplomate ACVS

Equine Department Head, Staff Surgeon and Lameness Specialist

After receiving his veterinary degree from the University of California at Davis, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995, Dr. Bryant completed an internship at Texas A&M University, followed by a surgical residency at the University of Florida. He was a member of the clinical faculty of both Kansas State University and the University of Florida before returning to the Pacific Northwest, where he grew up. Dr. Bryant has a strong interest in equine sports medicine, particularly lameness diagnosis and treatment of all types of sport horses. He is actively involved in the sport of endurance, both nationally and internationally, and serves on the veterinary committee of the American Endurance Riding Conference. His surgical interests include soft tissue surgery, colic, upper airway, and orthopedic procedures. In his spare time, Dr. Bryant likes to play golf, ride, travel, and attend Mariners games with his family.

Michelle Delco, DVM, Diplomate ACVS

Staff Surgeon and Lameness Specialist

Dr. Delco is originally from New York, and received her veterinary degree from Cornell University in 2002. After a one-year post-doctoral internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, she completed an equine surgery residency at the University of California, Davis and obtained board certification through the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Delco then joined the faculty at Kansas State University as an assistant professor in equine surgery. Although she greatly enjoys teaching, Dr. Delco left academic practice to join Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in July 2008, and is excited to live and work in the Northwest. Her professional interests include orthopedic surgery, sport horse lameness diagnosis and treatment and minimally invasive surgery. When not in the hospital, she spends her time gardening, singing and playing traditional American music and exploring the outdoors with her dog, Kirby.

Joanne Fehr, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS

Emergency Clinician, Staff Surgeon

Originally from England, Dr. Fehr is a 1993 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, College of Veterinary Medicine. She completed an internship at the Young-Crawford Clinic in Alberta, Canada, followed by a surgical residency at Colorado State University. After becoming a board-certified surgeon, Dr. Fehr stayed on at CSU for another year as an emergency clinician before going into private practice in Alberta, Canada in 1998. Since joining Pilchuck’s large animal staff in 2000, Dr. Fehr became very involved in the medical and surgical treatment of llamas and alpacas as well as following her areas of special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of colic and laminitis. In 2008 she changed position to provide full time emergency coverage for the Equine hospital. Dr. Fehr enjoys spending quality time with her children, and her husband while keeping up with all their activities such as vaulting and hockey. She has a gift for art, including interior design, and enjoys staying active riding, running or rollerblading.

Wendy Harless Mollat, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM

Staff Internist, Critical Care and Neonatology Specialist

Wendy Harless Mollat grew up in Bend, Oregon where she was actively involved in riding and training Hunter/Jumper and Dressage horses. She graduated with her DVM from Oregon State University in 2002 and then went on to complete a 1-year internship in Equine Medicine and Surgery at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital where she developed an interest in camelids, neonatology and infectious disease. Dr. Mollat followed her internship with a 3-year residency in Large Animal Medicine at UC Davis and became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. In September 2006, Dr. Mollat returned to Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital to lead the medicine section of the Equine referral hospital. Her focus at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital includes biosecurity (controlling the spread of infectious disease), neurological diseases, neonatology, Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome, and camelid (alpaca and llama) medicine. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Mollat enjoys sending time with her husband, working on projects in her new (old) home, which was built in 1895, sailing in the San Juan Islands, and bicycling. She and her husband, Martin, recently opened Snohomish Bicycles, a full-service bicycle store in downtown Snohomish.

Brandi Holohan, DVM.

Equine General Practitioner, Dentistry, and Reproduction

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000, Dr. Holohan was accepted for a one-year, post-doctoral internship at Pilchuck’s equine referral hospital. Her move to Snohomish allowed her to broaden her veterinary experience and, during her time away from the hospital, to enjoy hiking, camping, horseback riding, and dirt biking in the Pacific Northwest. In July 2001, Dr. Holohan joined Pilchuck’s team of equine ambulatory doctors where her special interest has been mare and stallion reproductive management. Her continuing education in this area has been a major asset to the services offered at Puget Sound Equine Reproduction Center. Dr. Holohan has also furthered her skills in Equine Dentistry and offers full services to our clients both I hospital and in the field. On her weekends off, Dr. Holohan continues to enjoy outdoor activities with her husband, two sons, and their two Jack Russell terriers.

Lisa Gift Krauter, DVM, Diplomat ACVS.

Equine General Practitioner, Ambulatory Lameness Specialist and Emergency Surgeon

Dr. Krauter has been a member of Pilchuck’s team of board certified large animal surgeons since 1992. She graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988, and received her equine surgical training at Kansas State University. Her areas of special interest are equine lameness diagnosis and treatment, and colic surgery. She enjoys the challenge of helping her equine patients achieve their athletic potential and is frequently consulted on subtle lameness issues. A former competitive swimmer, Dr. Krauter continues to enjoy water sports and scuba diving. She likes snakes, and hates shopping. Dr. Krauter is an active member of her church, and has fun debating religion or politics with her friends. She and her husband enjoy time with their children, hiking and traveling.

Stephanie Meyer, DVM

Equine Practitioner,  Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, and Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist

Dr. Stephanie Meyer received her DVM degree as a graduate of the class of 2006 from Texas A&M University.  She then completed a one-year rotating internship in large animal medicine and surgery at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in Snohomish, Washington in 2007. Dr. Meyer has recently returned to Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital after completing a 3-year residency in 2010 in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.  Dr. Meyer is  certified as a Veterinary Acupuncturist from the Chi Institute in Ocala Florida. She is a Board eligible large animal internist. Her clinical expertise includes general internal medicine and  acupuncture with special interests in equine cardiology, neonatal emergency and critical care, and complementary medicine modalities including acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. Dr Meyer’s outside interests include her two horses Luke and Raleigh. While Luke is her favorite pasture pet, Raleigh lives to work and enjoys jumping, cross country and some dressage. In fact, Dr. Meyer grew up participating in western pleasure riding but only started competing in amateur jumping in the last two years.

Dr. Jennifer Miller DVM, ed Equine and Small Animal Chiropractorne Ambulatory. Miller admits that her passion for all animals has been a defining part of her life. By age twelve, she’d saved up enough money to buy her first horse, Sabrina, who is now 30 years old. Dr. Miller worked for a mixed-animal practice while attending high school in Eastern Kansas. Since being certified, she has also completed several more advanced chiropractic courses. Her experience with a wide variety of cases in horses from many disciplines as an intern prepared her well to handle work as a field veterinarian. Tad M. Tipton, DVM

Equine General Practitioner, Denistry and Reproduction

Dr. Tipton received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science in 2000 from the University of Wyoming and received his veterinary degree from Kansas State University in 2004. Upon graduation, he joined the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute where he interned from July 2004 – July 2005. Hagyard is regarded as the world's premier equine practice since 1876. In July of 2005 he became an ambulatory equine doctor for Hagyard where he continued to develop his skills in reproduction, dentistry, herd health, emergency medicine, and foal neo-natal care until February 2011. Dr. Tipton is familiar with Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital because he completed an externship at Pilchuck in 2003. He also received instruction from Dr. James Bryant, Pilchuck’s well-known Equine Department Head, when Bryant taught at Kansas State University many years ago. Dr. Tipton was raised in Western Nebraska on a large ranch with 3000-5000 head of cattle. He is a true outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and fishing. He also competes regularly in team roping, a popular and very exciting rodeo event. Team roping is known as heading and heeling and features a steer with long horns being roped by two mounted riders, one from the front and one from the rear. “I’ve been competing in team roping events since I was in college. It was a way of life growing up. It’s fast, and I get a real adrenalin rush. I’ve even found a place here in Marysville where I can compete so I feel right at home.

Alexandra Abramson-Mooney, DVM

Equine Surgery and Medicine Intern 

Dr. Abramson joins our team all the way from Florida where she grew up riding Hunter/Jumper horses competitively in the Southeast region. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 2007, where she graduated with honors and a distinction in research. Lexi then moved back to Florida where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 from the University of Florida and completed a research honors thesis for Phi Zeta. Lexi’s areas of interest include orthopedic surgeries as well as practice management, with the goal of pursuing a career as a board certified veterinary surgeon for the equine sports industry. She lives in Snohomish with her husband, Barrett, her two dogs, Derby and Belmont, and unfortunately had to leave her horse Patrick (“Mad About You”) in Florida. Outside of the clinic, Lexi enjoys watching movies, skiing, gardening, cooking, and traveling whenever she gets the chance.

Ragan Garrett, DVM

Equine Surgery and Medicine Intern 

Dr. Garrett joins the Pilchuck team from Bend, Oregon where she grew up riding hunter-jumper and trail riding every summer with her dad.  She completed both her Bachelor of Science and Veterinary Medicine degrees at Oregon State University.  She is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health from University of Minnesota.  She lives in Snohomish with her golden mix Quinn and kitten, Jackson.  She isn't sure yet what she wants to do after her internship but is interested in internal medicine, imaging, and public health.  During her free time she loves to cook, read, hike, camp, travel, and spend time with her friends and family.  Her next big trip will be to go scuba diving in Belize.  

Crystal Williams, DVM

Equine Surgery and Medicine Intern  

          Dr. Williams grew up in southern California and has spent the last nine years in Davis, California.  She received her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at UC Davis and worked in the Large Animal Intensive Care Unit at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine before entering vet school.  As well, she spent six months working at an equine intensive care unit during the thoroughbred foaling season in Australia.  Crystal graduated with her DVM from UC Davis this last June 2011and has joined our team as an equine intern for the next year.  Her long term goal is to become a boarded equine surgeon with interest in equine acupuncture and critical care.  She moved here with her dog Sam, who is a 15 year old shepard mix, and enjoys cycling, hiking and gardening in her spare time.
