For the last few years there has been increased attention directed at fresh cow management. The focus point has been the early detection of sick fresh cows so that they might receive prompt medical attention. For most dairies, this has amounted to monitoring cows’ temperatures. While there have been perceived benefits from these "temping" programs, Pilchuck’s dairy practitioners believe that there are considerably greater opportunities in a fresh cow program with a more complete, intense, and pro-active process.
