Our goal at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital is to serve all the health care needs of dogs and cats. Our patients start as young as a few days old and include beloved pets, working dogs, and competitive athletes, as well as senior citizens. Basic preventive medicine includes vaccinations, parasite control, advice on flea control, inserting microchips, and dentistry. For emergencies and critical care, we have doctors available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

When they are needed, we have a number of diagnostic alternatives available. They help us to discover or survey the scope of what is bothering your animal. Radiology or x-ray equipment allows us see what is going on inside your pet with minimal discomfort. Ultrasound enables us to image internal organs and soft tissue structures, MRI provides high detail imaging of specific soft tissue and bony body parts, and our endoscope allows internal viewing of the intestines and respiratory system. With our in-house laboratory, we have fast results on diagnostic blood, tissue, urine or stool tests.

When intervention is necessary, we are proud to have the latest equipment in our up-to-date facility. Our recently remodeled hospital and dedicated staff are equipped to handle both scheduled and emergency surgeries, and treat complicated medical cases. If you wish to breed your dog or cat, we can advise.

To address specific conditions or issues, we can provide nutritional counseling and behavioral advice. We can design pain control programs as well as geriatric care for pets at the end of their life or coping with injury or illness. For those looking for other options to treat injuries or keep older animals comfortable, our alternative medicine services include acupuncture, chiropractic and herbal medicine evaluations and treatment.

Alternative Medicine
Many forms of therapy fall into the broad category of alternative medicine. Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital provides chiropractic, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine as alternatives to standard veterinary care. Alternative care is most often sought in cases where conventional or Western medicine is unable to diagnose or treat a medical condition. Side effects of conventional medicine sometimes make treatment more dangerous than the disease, for example stomach problems created by anti-inflammatory medication.

Chiropractic care is used for cases of poor performance, back pain or subtle lameness. Acupuncture is commonly used for pain relief as well as management of more complex medical conditions. Herbal medicine is useful in diseases that are difficult for conventional medicine to categorize and/or treat such as immune system disorders or chronic organ disease. Herbal formulas can often replace or reduce the dose of common pharmaceuticals.

Behavior
Behavioral problems in dogs and cats are a top concern of many pet owners. Many behavioral problems can be corrected through behavioral modification training and/or medication. If you have questions or concerns about your pet's behavior, ask a Pilchuck staff member or veterinarian for advice.

Boarding
While not designed as a boarding facility, we do offer boarding on a limited basis.

Dentistry
Our newly remodeled dental suite enables us to diagnose and treat a variety of dental diseases. We are able to meet a range of oral health needs from standard teeth cleaning to evaluating tooth root problems with our dental x-ray unit.

Emergency
If this is an emergency call 360 568-9111 immediately.
In conjunction with our daytime veterinary services, Pilchuck is also home to a full time small animal emergency hospital. The Puget Sound Center for Veterinary Medicine provides 24-hour care for your pet with a team of compassionate and highly trained technicians and professionals.

Endoscopy
Our video endoscope allows us to view the inside of your animal. A video chip on the end of a flexible light source enables us to look at the lining of the intestines or respiratory tract; to take samples; or retrieve objects that shouldn’t be there. Endoscopy is a useful alternative to surgery that offers less stressful means to diagnose problems.

Geriatric Care
As veterinary health care improves, our animal companions are living longer lives. As pets age, there are different diseases and problems that can affect their quality of life. Some of these can be prevented or treated if they are diagnosed early in their course. A geriatric health exam by a small animal veterinarian will help ensure early detection and treatment of these problems.

Hospital Care
The in-patient care at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital is designed to provide constant and complete monitoring and care for the safety and health of your pet. Veterinarians and staff are working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to monitor and treat hospitalized dogs and cats. This ensures that no patient goes without the best and most complete care, helping them to recover as quickly as possible from illness or injury.

Laboratory
Tests on blood, urine, stool, or tissue can be very useful when determining either illness or health. Pilchuck’s full service, in-house lab allows for quick diagnosis and monitoring the progress of disease. Pre-surgical blood analysis prior to anesthesia also provides an exra measure of safety. These tests help us check organ function and determine the best way to prepare each animal for surgery.

Laser Surgery
Using a non-contact mode that leaves no bruising, crushing or tearing after an incision, laser surgery is ideal for procedures such as removing tumors, eye surgeries, ear procedures and other soft tissue applications. The benefits include reduced blood loss, swelling and discomfort during and after surgery.

Microchip
Inserting a microchip is a quick and effective way to identify your pet in case it becomes lost.

MRI
To assist with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the nervous system, bones and joints, we provide dedicated Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It is capable of producing highly detailed images where conventional imaging - ultrasound, radiography - may be inadequate.

Nutrition
Proper diet is important for each stage of your pet's life, from puppy or kitten to geriatric pet. Proper nutrition can also be essential in the management of many diseases such as kidney failure, bladder stones, obesity, and diabetes. Let us help you make the right dietary choice for your pet, to help ensure a long and healthy life

Pain Control
Integrated pain control is appropriate for a variety of conditions. We strive to provide a complete plan specifically tailored for each animal to alleviate pain and provide the greatest level of comfort. A comprehensive plan can include neutraceuticals, steriodal and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as well as alternative medical treatments such as acupuncuture.

Parasite Protection
Our goal in integrated parasite protection is to recommend the safest prevention and treatment plan without compromising effectiveness and ease of use. We offer a variety of options based on your pet’s specific needs. Total parasite protection can be achieved without the use of common insecticides on your pet, in your home, or yard.

Radiology
Our equipment is suited to produce high quality x-rays for all sizes of patients. X-rays allow us to quickly get answers about what is going on inside an animal as comfortably and safely as possible. Pilchuck now offers dental x-rays.

Reproduction
We are equipped to help in a variety of reproductive problems. Consultation, ovulation timing, and fresh or cooled semen artificial insemination services are routinely performed.

Surgery
With newly remodeled, comprehensive surgical facilities staffed by dedicated professionals using up-to-date equipment, Pilchuck provides a variety of surgical options. From spaying and neutering to advanced orthopedic surgeries, we are able to help your pet should the need arise. More information on spays and neuters

Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a specialized imaging technique that uses inaudible sound waves to create an image of soft tissue structure. It allows us to view the inside of organs in a way that x-rays can’t. Pregnancy diagnosis and evaluation of fetus viability is a popular use for ultrasound. Our equipment and training allow us to perform general diagnostics. For more special cases, we have the option of having a veterinary specialist come to the hospital to assist us.

Vaccines
Requirements for vaccination vary with an animal’s age, risk of exposure and specific breed characteristics. We tailor recommendations based on each animal’s special needs. Improvements in vaccine technology allow us to provide the safest and most effective vaccine plan possible for your pet.
